Immunet Protect 2.0 Free Cloud based Antivirus Review

Immunnet Protect 2

I have been using Immunet Protect Anti-virus for Windows for a week now, and it has been working great for me, It only uses very little CPU resources and about 26MB of RAM. Immunet claims its anti virus is 35% lighter then most anti-viruses. However, Immunet protects me from almost 14.5 millions online threats, and there are over 450,000 active users for Immunet Protect 2.0.

Immunet protect is a very light weight anti-virus which uses the power of the internet and Immunet’s users to help protect all computers connected to the Immunet cloud internet network.

Immunet also can be installed on a computer with an anti-virus already installed like AVG, Antivir, Microsoft Security Essentials, Norton, etc. It is a good idea to also has another anti-virus installed since if a virus disables your internet or a PC is offline, Immunet can’t protect or heal your computer from offline threats like auto-run CD viruses, macro viruses, etc which a offline anti-virus can.

I like Immunet 2.0 more then ClamAV for Windows by Immunet since Immunet since Immunet Protect 2.0 has a full system, custom scan, and flash scan mode. However, ClamAV by Immunet only has a flash scan mode. There is also a right click context menu item which allows you to use Immunet to scan a selected file, folder, or drive on your computer.

Immunet Protect has an active virus shield which monitor programs installs and starts, and it blocks viruses from being installed on your computer.

Immunet does not require you to download and install anti-virus definition updates since the definition are on the internet which is constantly being updated by Immunet. Immunet also claims that once the online definitions are updated, all Immunet users who are connected to the Immunet Cloud Network will be protected from new viruses, spyware, bots, worms, trojans, and key-loggers. All you have to do is update to the latest software version of Immunet when it is released .

There is also a community feature in Immunet which lets you add people to your network, so they will also be protected from known threats as well.

Immunet also does not slow down my internet speed to a noticeable level. My internet speeds are about the same as not running Immunet at all.

Immunet system scan took 3.5 hours to scan my 408335 files on my 350GB drive. It is a decent time considering that I have so many big files on my computer.  When I do a flash scan which only scans my memory/RAM for running processes it took 36 seconds to scan 1773 files which are running in my RAM.

During the virus scan with Immunet, my computer was still usable for doing simple tasks like browsing the web, watching movies, and word processing. I’m also running SuperAntiSpyware, System Protect, Microsoft Security Essentials with Immunet Protect 2.0. My computer speed has not slowed down to a noticeable level after installing Immunet Protect 2.0 free edition.

Immunet is simple to use. All I have to do is install it, and it runs every time I start my computer. The Settings don’t need to be configured to your needs since everything is already set up for you. Although, you can turn on blocking mode for extra protection.

Immunet scan history and summary are very easy to view. All I have to do is open Immunet, and click on the history and summary heading for Immunet to show me a bar graph of the scan results.

Immunet can be a great second opinion anti-virus for your computer since Immunet might be able to detect newer viruses which your regular anti virus did not catch.

If you want to stay up to date with the latest computer security threats, and ways to protect yourself from viruses, there is a Notices/Blog reader which list new blog posts on Immunet’s blog at blog.immunet.com . To access the blog reader in Immunet Cloud Anti-virus, just click the notices heading on Immunet’s main program window.

Since Immunet uses so little RAM and CPU resources, it can be a great anti virus for a slower netbook and computer which are always connected to the internet.

Immunet can also be a great anti-virus for online gamers since Immunet won’t slow down a computer game while gaming online while protecting your computer from viruses. Gamers can only use Immunet on their computer, or disable their regular anti-virus like AVG active shield while they are gaming.

I have been very happy with Immunet Protect 2.0. It does not slow down my computer. However, it also protects my computer from over 14.5 million computer threats like viruses and spyware.

I have tried many anti virus for my computer, but I think I will try Immunet. I am impressed with how it works.

You also don’t have to install your current antivirus to use Immunet Protect, so it makes trying Immunet easier. I am also impressed at how Immunet can use its community to protect everyone from over 14.5 viruses, and Spyware.

Only the paid version protects against rootkits.

Thanks for the info and comment Chas.

The good thing about Immunet Cloud Antivirus is it can and is recommended to be run along side with a regular antivirus like AntiVir, Kaspersky, etc which can protect against Root Kits for offline protection according to the Immunet website.

If you want to learn more about the free vs paid version of Immunet, you can read immunet.com/plus/compare/index.html

I also recommend running an AntiSpyware program like MalwareBytes, or SuperAntiSpyware for malware and spyware protection as well.

Interesting. I mainly run malwarebytes on all our systems. If that doesn’t get rid of it I will wipe and reinstall. How does it compare to something like malwarebytes.

I’m not sure since I’m not too familiar with MalwareBytes detection rate, but Immunet has a high detection rate since it protects a computer from over 14.5 million threats and even more each day. MalwareBytes is more of an Antimalware/AntiSpyware, and Immunet is an Antivirus which mostly detect viruses, and worms vs malware and spyware like MalwareBytes.

    antivirus review
A sudden black computer screen usually indicates a memory failure in your computer. It is usually caused by having too many computer programs in use at once, or trying to process to much data at once. If you were multitasking and experienced a sudden failure, this might have been the cause. If this happens to you often, you may either need to work less, or upgrade your hardware.

Thanks for the tip. Although, I usually scan when I have all my programs like web browsers, games, media players, instant messangers and office suites closed. Thanks for the Memory failure causing black screens. I use Memtest to test my computer’s memory.

Virus scanner and Antivirus software reviews and comparison.Despite security improvements of operating systems the internet is not becoming a safer place. Compared to a simple Antivirus, an Internet Security Suite offers comprehensive security protection for your computer.

Any logic in running Immunet Protect 2.0 Free Cloud based Antivirus
along side Panda Cloud (free version?) or would we be duplicating?

  • Johnson Yip December 19, 2010, 5:16 pm

From what I heard from watching videos on Youtube and reading other articles about Panda Cloud is that you need to uninstall your current anti-virus before installing Panda Cloud Antivirus. Panda cloud is also not listed in Immunet’s list of Compatible antiviruses at support.immunet.com/tiki-read_article.php?articleId=4.

    Thanks for the comment, Dutkowski.

  • Dutkowski December 19, 2010, 7:34 pm

I am running Panda along with Avira Antivirus and Superantispyware with no difficulties at all.

I suppose adding Immunet would just be a duplication and overkill.

Cool, Thanks for sharing your experience with Panda Cloud antivirus. I give Panda Cloud Antivirus a try. I’m currently using Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes. I agree running Immunet might be duplication and overkill. It can also slow down your PC since running 3 antivirus programs at once can be resource intensive unless you have a super fast computer.
