AddToAny WordPress Plugin lets reader Share,Bookmark,Email with a button

Share E-mail Bookmark buttonAddToAny is a plug-in which help readers on your WordPress blog easily share your articles on almost every popular social networking and webmail website.

AddToAny can help you get more traffic from social media sites like Digg, Facebook, and Twitter and many more. If your content is interesting to members on social media sites, people from social media sites, might become loyal readers and  subscribers to your blog.

When your new readers who found your blog on social media websites read your articles, they might also use the share/save button to easily share and bookmarks the articles they like onto social media sites which will refer more visitors to your site. It is like a cycle as long as you post worthy articles, people will keep sharing your articles on social media websites, and referring more visitors to your blog.

Having a lot of backlinks from social media sites can also help you generate a lot of backlinks when people social bookmark your site, or decide to talk about your article on their blog, and link back to your original article which is good for search engine optimization since people and websites see your sites as a good source for information, so you might get higher search rankings when people search for your site on a search engine or directory.

AddToAny is so easy and fast to use, so you have a better chance of influencing your readers to help you distribute and share your content since it is almost effortless sharing links to your content via social bookmarking, and E-mail. All the reader have to do is click the share/save button, pick their favourite social bookmarking service, or e-mail service, and send your posts links to their social bookmarking profile or to their e-mail contacts instead of logging in to their services, copying and pasting your link on a social bookmarking service, writing a description, title, and clicking a link which can be time consuming vs the simplicity of the AddToAny Share/save button which is click, send, and share if your reader is already logged into Twitter, Digg, etc.

AddtoAny on posts

AddToAny will help your regular readers easily social bookmark, e-mail, and bookmark your articles which save them time, and make them more likely to come back to your site because they e-mailed, bookmark, or social bookmark your site for future reference.

Plus, AddToAny does not take up a lot of space like other social bookmarking plug-ins for WordPress since all the bookmarking buttons are hidden until a reader clicks on the button or hover his mouse over the button. The reader can click on the arrow pointing down to view a list of more social bookmarking websites. The button also looks very clean, so it does not ruin your blogs design. If you do not want a button, it is also possible to use a text link to open AddtoAny menu items.

Your reader can pick from a long list of social bookmarking and networking websites to use to share your articles with their friends and family on Digg, Twitter, Facebook, Stumbleupon, Google Buzz, etc. There is also an option which allows readers to easily use Yahoo mail, Hotmail, Gmail, AOL mail, any mail, or an E-mail client like Outlook, Thunderbird, etc to send your article link to their friends or everyone on their contact lists in their default e-mail program via e-mail.

If your article is very entertaining and informative, the readers who receive your post’s link by e-mail might forward your post’s link to more people on their e-mail list or even post a link to your website on their website, blog, social network profile, and  e-mail newsletters which can reach thousands of potential readers.

E-mail can be a great source of traffic like when your friends forward funny jokes to all their friends. Plus, e-mail is not competitive as social bookmarking sites like Digg, Stumbleupon, etc which are very hard to get featured on the first page unless your blog has a huge loyal fan base which also are active social bookmarking members on Digg, etc.

The bookmark section tells users to press CTRL+D to bookmark your article which will make a web browser bookmark a website.

AddtoAny Social media bookmarking plug-in is easy to install and set up. All you have to do is install the plug-in, and activate it in WordPress, and the plug-in will show up in the footer of your articles, pages, and front page.  The default settings should be fine for most blogs. However, if you want to change the buttons appearance and where it shows up on your blog, you can go into the settings and change settings.

AddToAny Settings

In Settings for Share/save button for AddToAny, you can customize how big the button is, or make the button a text link instead, so the plug-in loads faster, or looks less cluttered on a minimalistic blog. I recommend the fourth button appearance with the Facebook, and Twitter icons because it is not too big, but shows the Twitter and Facebook logo, so people know they can bookmark and share your article on Facebook and Twitter which are two of the most popular social networking sites on the internet.

add remove services AddToAny

If you want to add or remove services from AddToAny, just click on the “Add/Remove services” button on the top of the settings page in Share/Save settings. This feature lets you choose services which is best suited for your targetted readership, and remove services which your readers are less likely to use.

I don’t think any of those plugins are worth the space they occupy. Except maybe for FB’s “Like” button. Everyone who uses some kind of social platform to bookmark-share stuff – already have the necessary tools to do it effectively. For others – that’s just wasted screen space. IMHO

You can usually pick a smaller button or text links in some social bookmarking plug-ins, so they use less space or disabling them from showing on the frontpage, feeds, archives, and other areas. I agree most people who are active social bookmark has the necessary toolbars, Firefox add-ons, or other tools to social bookmark. But, I still think clicking a button on a website to social bookmark is the simplest way for most people since they just click on the social bookmarking service they use, and login and press submit. It might be more convenient for people who use a school, work, or not their own computer without the neccessary browser tools. Plus, some people don’t really like installing social bookmark toolbars or bookmarks on their browser since they can take up some space, so if they want to tweet your post on twitter, they can just click the Tweetmeme button.

Most all-in-one social bookmarking services also has an “E-mail article button” which makes it easier for everyone to e-mail your article by just clicking the E-mail button which launchs their default e-mail client. There are also a real bookmark button which launches the bookmark manager for a visiter web browers, so users can quickly bookmark a page by just clicking the bookmark button on the footer of your post.

But, I agree that social bookmarking plug-ins can be a waste of space on certain types of blogs like personal blogs, or general topic blogs since most readers might be less tech savy, so they are less likely to social bookmark your site with a tool or buttons on your site.

    Thanks for the comment, Slava.

Awesome, I help maintain this plugin. 🙂 Did you know that you can also choose standalone services that appear alongside the Share button? Click “Add/Remove Services” in the AddToAny settings panel to see what I mean. Thanks for posting about AddToAny!

    Cheers,
    Pat

Awesome, thanks for the Tip on customizing the “add/remove services” in AddToAny. This feature sounds useful for people who want to add related services for their websites niche like entertainment niches probably want Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Stumbleupon, Tumblr, and other more popular social bookmarking sites, but probably want to remove services like Digg which does not look very targeted for the 13-25 age groups interested in celebrity gossip and news.

It’s always nice to meet the developers of plug-ins which I enjoy using. Thanks for the Tip, Pat.

Can it provide stats on how many times and on which page/post each button was used?

  • Johnson Yip September 24, 2010, 10:13 pm

No it can provide stats since there is nothing on the AddToAny website which states AddToAny can keep stats on how often the button is used, and I can’t find a log in Wordpress for keeping track of button usage per page or post. It would be a cool feature, though. Thanks for the Question, Mark.
