Dr. Web Cure It! A great free Windows antivirus (does not require installation)

Dr. Web Cure It

Dr. Web Cure it is a great antivirus which works right after you download and start it by doubling clicking on the Dr. web Cure it executable (.exe) file which is about 46 MB in size. You do not have to uninstall your installed antivirus to run Dr. Web Cure it since Cure it is just an antivirus scanner, and virus remover like many free anti-spyware scanners programs which don’t have an active shield which will conflict with your installed antivirus.

Dr. Web Cure It also claims to detect and remove  viruses, rootkits, Trojan horses, spyware, and other malware which other anti-virus which could not detect and remove.

All you have to do is click “yes” and agree that you are using it on your home computer, and not work computer, so you are not violating the “terms of service”.

Your computer screen will become not as  bright, and your PC won’t be useable until the scan is done, and you quit Dr. Web’s Cure it. This is done, so Dr. Web can remove the most hard to remove viruses, spyware, trogans, root kits, and other malware.

After you agree, you can choose to update Dr. Web Cure it, or do a quick scan by hitting the scan button.

The quick scan takes about 30 minutes on my computer. If the quick scan finds a virus or other malware, you should run a full scan to remove viruses, spyware and other malware which the quick scan did not detect and remove.  Dr. Web Cure it also ask you if you want to restore the Windows HOST file, you can click yes.

I like how simple to use “Dr. Web Cure it” is to use, and it has a option for restoring the Windows Host File.

Dr. Web Cure It is available for Windows 2000,XP, Vista, and 7. Dr. Web can also be run from the Command Line in MS-DOS if your computer becomes so infected that it would not even start up.

Instructions for the command line scanner for Dr. Web Cure It. can be found at freedrweb.com/cureit/cl

Thank You Johnson for this information. Lot of anitivirus installation require removal of previously installed AV softwares. It is happy to see that this doesn’t need that.

Indeed, Dr. Web Cure It Is pretty good since you just download, and run it. Hit Man Pro 3.5 and the free version of MalwareBytes also work withpit uninstalling the previous Anti-Virus before you can do a scan and removal task.
