Lower Avant Browser Memory Foot Print in seconds without restarting Avant Video!

Youtube.com/JohnsonYip1 for more computer help videos.

The main problem I have with Avant Browser is it uses a lot of RAM after opening multiple tabs, or using it for a few hours. I don’t like restarting Avant Browser since it means I have to re-login to my online  Avant storage account to access my bookmarks, autofills, and RSS feeds.

This video will teach you how to close all your Avant Tabs/windows without restarting your browser. It only takes a few seconds to do, but you can get back 200-300MB or more of free memory.

Avant Browser is a web browser which uses the same Web browser engine as Internet Explorer. However, Avant Browser has better features like password encrypted online storage for your user account user names and password, bookmarks, RSS feeds, and multiple skins for it which IE lacks. Other then the memory usage problem over time with Avant, Avant is a great web browser which has all the features I need and none I don’t need. Plus, I can customize Avant to use less screen real estate by rearranging the button, search box and address bar to fit on one bar and moving the Tab bar to the bottum of my screen. It is also posible to undock the bars so they use even less space or has a floating effect.

All you do is save all your work on your browser if you are using an online program like Google Docs. You need to right click on any tab which is open.

From the right click menu for the tab, pick the “Close ALL” menu item, and click yes when a pop-up window appears. Now Avant Browser should use less RAM then before.

Download Avant Browser at AvantBrowser.com

I notice sometimes emptying Avant Browsers Temporary files by clicking on the Trash Can shortcut on the toolbar for Avant or going to tools > Avant Browser’s options> Clear Records > Click on Clear Checked Items work at fixing problems with Avant using too much disk space to store its temp files, running slowly, or not being able to load “Social City” a Sim City like Flash game I play on Facebook.

You can also try using a memory optimizer like Iolo Memory Mechanic Ram Defrag which removes memory leaks and fragmentation problems and reduces your overall RAM usage when you optimize your RAM with Iolo Memory Mechanic.

    Hi Skii,

Avant Browser is great. The online storage save me so may times. I no longer lose my bookmarks or have to restore my bookmarks manually when Windows crashes and can’t be revived.

I’m running the latest version of Avant on a fresh install version of Windows 7, and it runs very fast.

A most terrific Web Browser. This browser is an up and coming browser but it has come a long way. I’ve

followed this browser for a few years now and always keep it on my desktop to use if I’ve ever gotten

bored with Firefox or just wanted to use something different. I really love this browser and just

downloaded the newest version that was released December 2009, haven’t used it or the last version or 2 in

the past 4-8 months. But I was very satisfied with Avant when I did use it. Avant is just as good as

Firefox and could be even better if the developers continued to shoot over the top!! Avant gets 5 Stars!!!

AVANT has ALWAYS been one of my TOP 2 FAVORITE BROWSERS!!

I agree I like how Avant Browser has online storage, and autofills which don’t get lost when my computer breaks since all your bookmarks, autofills, and RSS feeds are stored online so it is accessible from any computer with avant Browser. You should also check out Orca Browser which is also made by Avant, but uses the Firefox web browser engine.

    Thanks for the comment, Swiggy!

    Hi Johnson ,
Yes,I know orca and use it some times, but I prefer Avant .Just learn from their forum that orca will be merged into Avant in the coming year.

Hi Swiggy, I prefer Avant as well. It seems to load a few seconds faster when I launch it. I wonder how Avant will change once Internet Explorer 9 is officially release since I read online that Avant uses Internet Explorer as its browser engine. I heard you can try out the test build of Avant with IE9 beta which gives you more features like CSS3 and HTML5 according to forum.avantbrowser.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=28758

You can find the download link for the Test Build of Avant which uses the IE9 Beta engine here: forum.avantbrowser.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=28737.

However, you need to install IE9 first by downloading it at windows.microsoft.com/ie9 before you install the test build of Avant.

I’m currently using the Test Build and it works great. Although, for some strange reason I can’t download files from download.com and other download sites like FileHippo.

I solved this by also having the regular non-testbuild install of Avant for downloding stuff of the web by doing a custum install and naming the Avant folder “Avant Browser Regular Build”.

I notice the Avant forum also supports Orca on their forum. Does this mean Avant will have both an IE engine and Firefox engine on its browser for the user to pick to use while rendering their webpages.

Sounds interesting that Orca will be merge into Avant.

Very low memory usage, very easy to customize (such disable JavaScript, ActiveX, …), being able to block ads and pop-ups. I wonder why MS doesn`t do the same for us.

Indeed, disabling javascript, Java ActiveX, YouTube and scripts will make using the web faster, but it will make some sites not work properly like Youtube.

I’m looking for the news that 2011 version is available.

  • Johnson Yip February 15, 2011, 6:21 pm

Ella, I’m also looking forward to the news when Avant 2011 version is available as well. The release date will most likely be posted on blog.avantforce.com/category/avant-browser/ when Avant feels it is ready to release it. I hope the new 2011 version will support Internet Explorer 8 and 9 browser engine.
