Free Download manager is a great program to use for speeding up your file downloads up to 600% or more. It supports Bittorrent, FTP, and downloading flash video. It also warns you if you are downloading a virus, or other harmful software.
When I download AVG, it increase the speed to about 1MB per second on my cable internet connection. FDM is a great program for downloadind CD images (ISOs) from Ubuntu and other Linux distro sites.
I been using it for more then a year and I hightly recommend it.
