Hauppauge 1200 WinTV-HVR-850 USB 2.0 external HDTV TV Tuner Adapter Review

Hauppauge 1200 WinTV HVR-850 HDTV Tuner Stick
I have been using Hauppauge 1200 WinTV-HVR-850 HDTV USB 2.0 TV Tuner Adapter for more then a year to schedule and record, pause live TV and Watch TV on my Windows 7 Home premium desktop computer and Windows Vista Home Premium Laptop. It has been great being able to watch TV on my computer and laptop.

Best of all, I can watch TV while I surf the internet or do other tasks on my computer.

Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-850 works very well at watching TV and recording shows. The WinTV watching software which comes with  it is very easy to use to schedule and record, pause live TVand watch TV. I have been using Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-850 USB 2.0 TV tuner for a year to watch analog TV in Canada with very few problems. Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-850 also has an ATSC digital HDTV tuner for watching HDTV signals.

Since the Hauppauge 1200 WinTV-HVR-850 is USB 2.0 it is very easy to install on your computer. All I need to do is plug the USB end to my computer USB port, and connect the TV coaxial cable end to an antenna or to my home TV cable like plugging the TV cable into a TV connection. After I finish installing the WinTV 1200 HVR 850 USB tuner, all I need to do is run the installation software from the bundled CD in the WinTV HVR box to install WinTV for watching TV and the driver software, so Windows will recognize my TV tuner, so I can watch TV.

It also comes with a USB extension cable, so it can be plug into tight USB ports. You can also use the bundle antennae to watch antennae TV when you are in another state or town while traveling. The sleek and portable size of the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-850 makes it great for people who own laptops, and netbooks for watching TV on the go while having it plug into your laptop. It is also USB powered, so it does not require any batteries since the TV tuner gets its power from a USB port.

I also like that WinTV save recorded TV shows with .TS file format since I can watch .TS video files with Windows Media Player, GOM player, VLC, and other media player software.

WinTV program

The quality of the recordings for the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-850 is pretty good consider I watch TV on an analog TV connection which is lower quality then digital TV or HDTV channels.

TV recording times

It is also very easy to schedule TV programs for recording when I am not home or too busy to watch TV. This allows me to watch my favorite TV shows at a latter time, and not miss my favorite shows when I am out.

You can also use Windows Media Player Center for recording and watching TV instead of WinTV, but I found WinTV more user friendly and fast.

TV schedule setup

I can set WinTV to record my show once, everyday, or on selected days of the week every week. It is very easy to use to schedule TV shows for recording.

The price is great at just 49.99 US dollars  for the Hauppauge 1200 WinTV-HVR-850 HDTV USB 2.0 TV Tuner Adapter since it is a lot less expensive then a Digital video recorder like a Tivo.

Thanks Jason, I also like the record options. I find them a lot easier to use then the Record options in Windows Media Center, and Hauppauge’s recording software is easier and faster to use then WMCE. I also like I can shutdown, sleep, or hibernate my computer after recording which is very handy for saving electricity when my shows are done recording.

It is also very durable. I been using it since 2009 till now which is almost 2012, and it never failed me, or overheated.

This might not be the ideal place to request this, but I’m trying to find a reliable shop to repair our television online and and have no method to find out who is the very best. I uncovered this website which is I find reliable and wanted to see if any person has any reviews on them. Richmond TV Repairs. http://richmondtvrepairs.com
Please help me with this as my wife and I have been struggling to find a good/reliable shop to repair our television.

I think the Better Buisness Bureau, Yelp.com, and Craigslist may be a better place to look for Reliable TV repair services.

Online forums, and even Facebook groups can be a better website to ask people for suggestions.

    Good Luck!
