Desktop Computer + Laptop Hardware Repair Tool set for fixing a PC

Ultra 107 computer tool set

Do you want to fix your computer yourself to save time and money fixing your computer? One of the reasons hiring someone to fix your computer is expensive is because of labor costs which can cost hundreds of dollars or more per job. It can sometimes cost as much as buying a low-end or refurbished/used computer from an electronics store.

But, the tools to fix a computer are under $50 in most cases if you buy online from stores like Amazon like Ultra Computer’s 107 Piece Premium Tool Kit which only cost about 20 dollars for all the screw drivers, soldering iron, jumpers, screws, cable ties, and pliers you need to fix most computer and laptop brands. I use the Ultra Tool set myself for fixing my computers and laptops, and the tool set is great to use. If you do not know how to fix computers, there are plenty of cheap computer repair books you can find on Amazon or even borrow for free at your local library. I recommend Comptia A+ Certification All-in-one Exam Guide, Seventh Edition (Exams 220-701 & 220-702) since it is easy for most non-tech savvy people to follow. I read the 6th edition, but the 7th edition also includes information on Windows Vista and newer operating systems. It is used by computer students all over the world to study for the A+ computer technician certification exam.

I also like using YouTube to search for free computer repair tutorials since they are easy to follow, and usually have narration. Visiting computer repair tutorials website lime this blog can also have a lot of free tutorials for learning how to fix a computer.

Once you read a computer repair book, watch a few videos on computer repair, and visit a few computer repair and maintenance sites, you learn most computer related upgrade, repair, and maintenance tasks can be done from the comfort of home by yourself or another family member.

Fixing your own computer save you more money in the long run since you do not have to pay for labor, and you can pick quality computer parts like RAM, hard drives, cd drives, expansion cards which are built to last instead of being over charged for parts which are poorly made in some cases.

Fixing a computer at home is more environmentally friendly fixing your own computer. You do not have to waste gas driving to a computer repair shop. You can just fix your computer from the comfort of home, and you can sometimes reuse old parts from old computers which are broken, or sitting in your closet not doing anything.

Plus, you won’t risk hiring an untrustworthy technicians fixing your computer since they no one can steal your private photos and files, computer parts and replace them with cheaper parts, or overcharge you for simple tasks like replugging in a loose power or hard drive cable when you fix it yourself.

The person who might be fixing your computer may not be properly trained, or not use an Anti-Static Wrist Strap and Anti-Static Grounding mat to prevent himself from damaging your computer from electrostatic discharge.

Having knowledge in computer repair also looks good on your job applications and resume that you have some knowledge in computer repair since computers are used everywhere.

The computer technician might not of backed up your computer hard drive’s files on to an External hard drive, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive before fixing your computer which can be very bad since your files might be very hard to get back if he deleted them by accident or wrecked your hard drive while trying to fix your computer.

Using a Thermaltake Dr. POWER ATX power supply tester and Digital Multimeter can help you diagnose, troubleshoot, and fix problems with your PC power supply, internal computer batteries, and wall power outlet. Most computer repair books will teach you how to use a multimeter, and power supply tester.

I also recommend getting an Anti-static wrist strap and mat to prevent zapping your computer parts.

A small LED flash light might come in handy if your room is dark since the inside of the computer can be dark and hard to see. LED flashlight also have better battery life then traditional bulb flashlights since they are more energy efficient. They also last a lot longer compared to standard light bulb flash lights.

I also recommend you get Metro Vacuum ED500 DataVac 500-Watt, 0.75-HP Electric Duster to clean the inside of your computer and laptop since it will save you money in the long run compared to using one-time use canned air which can cost 10-20 dollars per bottle, and does not last very long.

A journal can be very handy to keep a diary of when you last maintained, repair, and upgraded your computer, and how you did it and what problems you encountered would also come in handy since you can refer back to your notes when the same problem happens again.

Thanks PC Fanatic, Indeed the toolkit mention in the post it’s very helpful. I personally use this kit all the time to take out computer parts by unscrewing screws. I like the handy carrying zippered binder since it is easy to carry around vs. a bulky tool box or a plastic bag.

Indeed, computer tools are also smaller, and lighter then regular screwdrivers which make it easy for technicians to use their screw drivers and other tools in tight spaces like screwing in the motherboard screws, or fan screws.
