How to use Ubuntu Live 9.04 CD to delete files in your Windows Recycle bin.

Move to trash

I notice sometimes that Windows does not delete all the files in my recycle bin because when I use a program called tree size  to see which folders take up the most space on my drive. It says my recycle bin has files in it, but when I open my recycle bin in Windows Explorer, it is empty. However, when I boot to Ubuntu 9.04 Live CD ,and open the $Recycle.Bin folder in C:\$Recycle.bin\ . It has folders in it with weird names like S-1-5-21-… that contains files in the folders, so I just delete the files and folder in $Recycle.Bin to get back valuable disk space  by deleting unwanted files, and freeing space. The recyle bin is caller RECYCLER in XP and $Recycle.bin in vista.

4. A window will pop up with a list of all your files on your drive. You can copy, cut, paste, delete, rename files like Windows Explorer. Find the folder named and open $Recycle.bin. Don’t delete $Recycle.bin. Only delete the files inside of $Recycle.bin

3. You can either delete all the folders, or go into the individual folders and delete what you need to delete, and leave the rest of the file in the recycle bin alone. Pick Move to Trash by right clicking the files or folders.

Now your recycle bin should be empty when you log in to Windows, and you should see that you have some free space back when you go to my computer and right click properties on the drive. The Recycle Bin icon should be empty on your desktop if you deleted all the files.
