Ubuntu Linux is a free, fast and stable operating system which is great for playing back audio and music files on my computer. The sound quality when playing back audio files in Ubuntu Linux is great. Linux is a great operating system for playing back Multimedia since Linux is free, stable, and can be installed on a lot of older computers in my experience. With the money you save by using Linux and an older computer to install Linux onto, you can buy better speakers for listening to your music.

I like that music players in Ubuntu start up quickly in seconds. This means I can quickly open up audio files for my listening enjoyment in seconds.

The user interfaces for the various media and audio players compatible with Ubuntu Linux are very easy to use, so there is almost no learning curve on using them if you used Windows or Mac based audio players like Winamp, iTunes, VLC, Foobar2000, etc. All the music playing software I mention are free, and can be easily installed by using the Ubuntu Software Center for Ubuntu Linux 10.04 and above and an Internet connection to download them.

HTML5 video players are video players which you can watch streaming videos on without the need to install any additional add-on or plug-ins like Adobe Flash Player or Java on your HTML5 compatible web browsers like Firefox 4-5+, Google Chrome 12, Internet Explorer 9, Opera 10.6, Apple Safari, etc.

Also, you might be able to play videos on smart cell phones and tablets like the iPhone, iPad, and iPad Touch which do not support flash, but support HTML5 in their phone’s web browser.

I mostly use my computer for listening to music and audio files because it is so convenient to use the internet to find new music, and playback music while I surf the web. Plus, there are tons of great online radio stations and streaming music on the internet to listen to on Shoutcast, Pandora, Facebook, Myspace, YouTube, Purevolume, Sound Click and Last.FM.

Also, my 5.1 surround sound speaker system on my computer sound better then most of the speakers and head phones I own for my traditional music players like CD players.

In this post, I recommend you my favorite music/audio players which I use to listen to music, auido e-books, audio files, sound, net casts, and pod casts.
