Open a CD DVD drive door on Broken or Off Computer Video

Watch a video of me teaching you how to open a CD or DVD optical disc drive which is broken or the PC is off, and won’t turn on because of a power outage, or other problems, but you really need to get a disc out of your optical drive. All you need is a straightened paper clip or a metal rod which is very small. It is best to pick a paper clip or  metal rod which is made of a hard metal like steel which won’t bend easily when straightened.  Using a paper clip is the safest way to get your DVD or CD out of the drive when your computer is off.

Buy Paper Clips from my Amazon   if you need a paper clip for this tutorial.

First, you need to straighten a paper clip to make it a straight metal bar. Make sure your computer is off before you begin sticking your paper clip into the door release hole for your computer CD DVD optical drive.

You need to firmly push the straightened metal paper clip into a very tiny hole on the front of the CD DVD optical drive. Push until the door pops open, and gently grab the edge of the door with your hand, and pull it out to take out the CD or DVD disc.

When you are done you should, gently push the DVD CD tray on the drive back into your drive.

This tutorial should work with most desktop and laptop computers with tray style disc drives. If there is a very tiny hole near the bottom of the disk tray, or on the disk tray door, this tutorial should work for you for opening a broken disc tray on a broken CD DVD optical drive.

You should only do this tutorial if your computer won’t turn on, or your CD DVD drive is broken, and won’t eject your disc when on since using the eject button on the front of the drive is the proper way of ejecting your disc out of your drive, and manually opening and closing the drive by using a paper clip can damage your drives motors, or gears. I guest you can use a paper clip to open and close your computer drive on your computer if your computer cd drives still works, but the drive door is broken, and you do not want to replace the optical drive.

Another nice video description, surprising how often the eject mechanism breaks but the drive itself still reads discs ok.

In case it’s just the eject button itself (rather than the whole eject mechanism) that has broken/stuck, it’s also worth trying software eject – open My Computer, right click on the CD/DVD drive letter and choose ‘Eject’ to try opening it although obviously that’s a no go if the computer is off/dead.

Indeed, the software eject in “My computer” sometimes works as well, but if the eject mechanism like the pulleys, gears, and motors are broken. The software eject would not work.

For me this is cool, because in one way or another this might help us.

Yes, knowing how to open a CD/DVD drive on a tray loading CD drive will help you in the future since the odds of a CD drive mechanism failing on your computer, or someone else’s computer can be high since all mechanical parts break after time, buy you do not know when.

Wow, I never thought it is that easy. Thank you for the tutorial. I can’t count how many times I had encountered the problem. It is great to know that there is an easy and safe way to open a CD/DVD drive.

I only encounter this problem once, but I think people who use their computer as a CD or DVD player experience this problem more. I predict this problem would be less common in the future since fewer people uses their CD or DVD drive as often these days since you can watch movies, play games, and listen to music online, or download it from online.

    Thanks for the comment Jeff!
